Aloe Here We Go!

Use the gel of Aloe Vera as a natural mosquito bite salve - harvest, stand the leaf horizontally to drain away the aloin in the skin for 24hrs before and keep a leaf fridge.

Aloe. Be Mine! - Love Smitten Not Bitten x

So, it’s launch week and I’m finally getting around to writing a piece on a natural antidote to insect bites!

My mind is cast back to a visit earlier this year to a very special plantation in the Caribbean.

A regenerative social enterprise farm and in keeping with the Mozzie Cozzie brand.

Quite a nice surprise - an education when you come across it.

Hopefully just like our gentle launch today.

This far-away farm is a salve for the usual scars associated with plantations in the tropics.

The Haitian refugee farmer family live onsite, working a full day 7am-4pm with a healthy 1hr break to fillet as they chose. They practice holistic farming with goats and chickens that eat the weeds on the farm and fertilize the aloe crops.

There’s 1 harvest week a month and this is possible when the outer leaves in the nurseries plant fields are chopped off with their flowers. This keeps the energy in the plant for bigger leaf cultivation - all quite naturally.

Every leaf is cleaned by hand and the pulp goes back into the field as a compost.

There are 14 workers all together on this farm - very much local people, as well as the migrated family. The locals are rightfully proud of what they offer: a fantastic product (95% pure aloe) combined with the knowledge to educate visitors on the workings of the farm and its custodians.

After the aloin (a bitter and toxic compound) is extracted through patience with the help of only gravity, a filleted leaf yields a whopping 750ml of juice. This juice produces over 27 products for internal and external consumption to elevate wellness.

Aloe can be supportive for those managing eczema, rosacea, psoriasis, and burns - you might like to learn how to grow your own. Even the slimy looking bi-product leaf skin holds a secret. When placed upon a Mosquito bite is helps take out the annoying itch.

So here’s to aloe! - hooray!

A regenerative plant, farmed in an all-encompassing environment and an elixir for those who get bitten.

And if you’re not up for being bitten, there’s now a new companion to journey with…
